My Favourite Wolves – Wolf Week – Day 3
I’m starting off Day 3 of Wolf Week without all the drama and bad news of Day 1’s wolf snare story and Day 2’s wolf kill contest update, and will instead be spending today talking about the many wolves I have gotten to know over the years and what they meant to me.
I’ll begin with a montage of some of my favourite wolves, including in the center the two matriarchs of the Bow Valley wolf pack in my career, Faith (top middle) and Delinda (bottom middle). Please click on the photo for a full-screen shot and enjoy!

I’d love to know what you think of the photo montage in the Comments below. Thanks!
And if you’d like to learn more about Delinda and see pictures from the past, please feel free to check out my Storybook Photo Gallery and read A Walk on the Wild (Wolf) Side with Delinda. You can also see her photograph on the cover of the December 2009 issue of Canadian Geographic, one of the most award-winning covers in the history of the magazine!
Happy viewing,
John

February 14, 2013 at 2:55 pmBeautiful photos of a magnificent animal … I would love to see and photograph one in the wild, but would be satisfied just to hear them howl!

February 14, 2013 at 2:55 pmI love the wolf collection, your article on Delinda, and that you made the cover of the December 2009 Canadian Geographic (I had not seen it before). As always, your work is awesome! May it continue equally successfully for many years.

February 14, 2013 at 5:36 pmYour montage epitomizes what all of us who care about nature feel. In my mind, wolves are as symbolic of Canada as the call of a loon (or even hockey!). I'd love to see your top far right photo as an illustration on one of our currency bills.

February 15, 2013 at 11:50 pmHi John,
This really makes me angry … You probably already know that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is deliberating the proposed removal of nearly all Endangered Species Act protections for gray wolves in the Lower 48 states.

It really is disgusting. As you well know there is absolutely no scientific bases for doing this. Obviously strong lobby groups are behind this proposal. There seems to be no end to the persecution of the “big bad” wolf!
